Developers challenged to create new mobile game in 100 Days
New game to launch exclusively at Eurogamer Expo 2012

Virgin Media has announced the launch of its '100 Day Game Project’ in association with Eurogamer and The University of Abertay Dundee. The company is calling for the best emerging young games developers in the UK to create a groundbreaking new mobile game in just 100 days. The game will be unveiled at the Eurogamer Expo 2012 where over 50,000 gamers are set to attend the four day event.

Developer teams of four are being asked to submit their ingenious new concept at http://www.virginmedia.com/100daygameproject and will have to demonstrate why their game could be the new ‘Angry Birds’.

A panel of handpicked expert judges from across the industry including Douglas Hare from Outplay Entertainment, David Hamilton from Digital Goldfish, Craig Lawson from Ubisoft Reflections and Tom Champion from Eurogamer will be tasked with selecting the best entry and Virgin Media will announce the winning team of developers in mid June.

The winning team will travel to the world’s hotbed of game development, Dundee to work with mentors to turn their concept into a reality, creating a fully functional mobile game. The final stages of development and unique bolt-on level of the game will be completed in front of a live audience and unveiled exclusively at Eurogamer Expo 2012. The game will then be available for gamers to play at the event.

Throughout the 100 days, the teams will be assisted by mentors to aid them in the games’ development. The team’s progress will be documented through the dedicated microsite where they will also blog about the latest developments. Members of the public will be invited to provide comments on all aspects of the game, including the character names and plot lines to help shape the development of the game.

Luke Southern, Head of Sponsorship and Partnerships at Virgin Media, said: “The mobile gaming industry is booming and we know that in the UK, we have got some of the best games developer talent in the world. Championing entrepreneurial spirit is something we’re really passionate about and this project is great way to celebrate this, we can’t wait to see the final result of this exciting competition. ”

The call for entries for the '100 Day Game Project’ opens 8th May and the closing date is 27th May. The winning developer team will be announced in the mid June.
